http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chicago-IL/The-Illinois-Institute-of-Art-Chicago-STUDENT-AFFAIRS/65613679980?ref=ts

When Facebook updates, it will be posted directly to your wall making easier for you to access info about events!

The second conclusion: Follow AI on Twitter!

https://twitter.com/AI_Chicago

Advanced notice
can be sent directly to your phone via text message. All you have to do it sign up for Twitter, then link AI's updates to your phone!! It's that easy! Shoot me a Facebook message or email (ChristinPed@gmail.com) if you need any help setting that up.

Last conclusion: Leave comments about what events you want and Adam and I can make it happen!

The Student Leadership Council is a free form student organization that lets ANY STUDENT PARTICIPATE by voicing their wants and needs are far as activities go. This means that you can march into Adam's office in the Student Affairs office and say "I have a group of friends that want the school to help fund this event" and poof! Wish granted. Student oriented organizations are meant to be just that: "Student Oriented".

~Now if your shy but have an idea for an event, anonymously email me (Christinped@gmail.com), message me on Facebook (search for Christina Pedroso, tell me you read the blog and I'll ADD you), or leave a comment and we can make these things happen!

~~~Within a few weeks, I will be organizing a community service event and would love ideas from the students!!!! Would you prefer to ladle food in a soup kitchen or help cuddly puppies in an animal shelter? Give me ideas and locations guys or you'll be feeding homeless people on a Friday night! ~~~
Finally, enjoy the snow! :)
Akira Fashion Show
Photo above taken by me (Christina Pedroso).
The Akira Fashion Show! Were do I begin? Alright, so I arrive at the Civic Opera House and am immediately ushered upstairs into this hallway like room where I am offered free drinks and sushi. Everyone is dressed semi-casually from the cutest women's shoes to a man tastefully dressed in a mermaid style floor length skirt matched only by his starched white ruffled blouse. The stage has been set for a wonderful evening of Fashion right? Well, that is up to how much you paid to attend this shindig.
As my occupying friend and I am were not ashamed to push for what we want, we hear the repetitive chiming bells that indicated the beginning of the seating period and begin to cut our way through the crowd to be seated first. We get to the front of the herd perfumed bodies and are asked for our VIP tickets for floor seating. As students who could only afford regular admission (25 dollars), we stepped aside and waited for those who paid 50 dollars to be seated in several rows of chairs on either side of the end of this hallway. That's when it slowly dawned on me... Only twenty or so of us in the front of the standing area in this hallway were going to be able to the show! The VIP's who paid received good seats while the rest hope and prayed that us tall people in front would magically shrink 4 inches for their viewing pleasure!
From what I was able to see, there were a lot of styles that had already been repeated from their previous seasons. Also, who puts a giant bird head onto a model? Does this enhance the clothing or take away from it, huh? Even for those of you who aren't into Fashion, this one should be easy. (I understand that theatrics brings attention, but sometimes going overboard is distracting. Remember, this was just my opinion).
A women who turned out to be the costumer was kind enough to let me have her place in line, so I was able to take decent picture that I've posted at the beginning of this post. Thanks nice lady! :)
Aside from barely being able to the show, we were in good company and I did learn a lot about the Civic Opera House. I will be attending their backstage tour offered to us through AI during the 7th week of school. Let's just hope we don't have to walk through anymore awkward hallways....
So what did I learn: If your going to attend your first Fashion Show, always pay full price!
Akira Fashion Show Tonight!
So I took a break from Blogging to spend sometime with family over the Holidays, but now that I'm back, I'm headed to the Akira Fashion Show Today at 6pm!! I love finding little events like this to spruce up my Fashion life (which undeniably has been lacking). It's 25 dollars and only a few hours long. I think I'll manage and maybe even take pics if it's allowed. :)
I bought these adorable black wedge heeled boots (with short fake fur at the cuff) over the break and I thought that today would be a great day to try them out. I took one step outside and nearly busted my butt on the ice that froze all over the cement after it rained last night. I walked in the street nearly 3 blocks this morning on my way to the bus stop! lol
So some tips for Chicago winter fashion: "skip the cute and go for the snow boot!" ;)
Until next time!
